Hot on the heels of opening its first flagship store, HYPE is taking its brand one step further with its latest outpost at Queensbay Mall, marking the brand’s first store on Penang Island. It’s yet another milestone to celebrate for the homegrown streetwear label, which has been bringing its take on contemporary streetwear culture to the scene since 2012. Following the opening of its mainland Penang location earlier this year, HYPE’s arrival at Queensbay brings its mix of streetwear, art, music and community to a new corner of the island.

To commemorate the opening, HYPE teamed up with Malaysian graffiti artist Jefr for an exclusive capsule collection that brings his distinctive visual language to the brand’s apparel and accessories.
The range spans tees, shopping bags, keychains, and skateboards, giving fans plenty of ways to bring a little of Jefr bold, colourful aesthetic into their own wardrobes to flaunt around town from the streets to the skateparks. Not to mention, the limited-edition collection is available exclusively at HYPE Queensbay, making each piece all the more meaningful.

However, this collaboration goes well beyond what’s hanging on the racks. As part of the agenda on launch day, Jefr himself made a special appearance at the store, meeting fans and fellow creatives before getting to work on artwork guests brought home. Now permanently installed within the store as its centrepiece, the artwork is a nod to the island’s identity and the spirit of its people, translated through the artist’s signature bold lines and striking colour combinations.

At its core, HYPE is where streetwear, culture and music collide. On opening night the store hosted live performances from the likes of Dato Maw, Killadriz and Momo—proof that this is a destination built for the community, not just another place to shop.
HYPE chose Queensbay Mall with the idea of bringing people together and making the brand’s experience more accessible to its Penang audience. After all, street culture has always been shaped by the communities around it, and this new store is a direct reflection of just that.

The Queensbay Mall choice was entirely deliberate, as the brand hopes to bridge communities and creativity in a space that provides more than just a shopping experience. With Jefr’s artwork plus a design that blends contemporary street culture aesthetics with bold references to the local art and music scene, its overall look is clean, confident, and collected—a perfect reflection of the brand’s evolution throughout the years.
With a permanent piece of Penang-inspired art on its walls, an exclusive Jefr collection on its shelves and plenty of room for the community to come together, HYPE Queensbay Mall is shaping up to be a new meeting point for the island’s streetwear and creative crowd.
