Leveling Up Young Chefs with Arla Foods!

Kita Food Festival is back for 2024, and this year they’re taking things up a notch with their Kita Horizons program. Think “MasterChef” meets summer camp, but elevated!

This program is all about giving 15 young chefs a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Imagine learning from the best in the business, getting your hands dirty on real farms, and then creating amazing food – all under the watchful eye of chef mentors, overseen by Chef Darren Teoh, a Michelin-starred superstar and one the mastermind behind Kita.

“Kita Horizons is all about breaking down barriers and showing young chefs where their food really comes from. It’s not just about fancy techniques, it’s about appreciating every ingredient and the people who make it possible.” quoted by Chef Darren Teoh, himself.

Masterclasses, Farm Visits, and More.

For 15 lucky selected young chefs, Kita Horizons mentorship program that’s like Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory for aspiring culinary talents. They get to learn from the best in the business through masterclasses with renowned chefs like Jack Weldie of Chipta 11A, Lim Heng Kit of LI Restaurant and LOCUS, and Yavhin Siriwardhana of Nadodi. This year, they’ve joined forces with Arla Foods, a dairy company that’s all about quality and sustainability. But it’s not all in the kitchen – they also get to visit farms to see how ingredients are grown and raised responsibly. Think farms, ethical chocolate producers, and organic vegetable – it’s a crash course in sustainable food production!

From Farm to Fork: Putting Their Skills to the Test

After all that learning, it’s time to get cooking. The young chefs will create tapas menus for private lunches across Malaysia. Here’s the twist: they have to use local, seasonal ingredients and even “rescued” produce like imperfect vegetables or underutilised cuts of meat. It’s all about fighting food waste and getting creative!

The Grand Finale: A Feast Fit for Royalty (and You!)

The program culminates in a special “Thank You Dinner” where these young chefs get to showcase their talent for 120 VIP guests. They’ll be using by-catch fish, secondary cuts of meat, and surprise veggies – proving that delicious food doesn’t have to be fancy or wasteful.

iI’s a platform for knowledge exchange. Renowned chefs share their expertise, inspiring a new generation to champion Southeast Asian cuisine and sustainable practices.
