This Cafe Should Be Enough A Reason For You To Visit Johor Bahru

It’s A Johor Bahru Staple For A Reason

Tucked away in Johor Bahru, Nimmies Pastry Cafe has built a reputation for being that brunch spot and has established itself as a benchmark for serious baking. But don’t be surprised when we tell you that much more lies within. Yes, the brunch is good, but honestly, that’s just the tip of the pastry iceberg at Nimmies Pastry Cafe.

Not your typical shoplot cafe, Nimmies Pastry Cafe resides in a beautiful two-storey bungalow, with both an alfresco and indoor seating area available depending on your liking. There’s something nostalgic about dining in a converted house, as if the space that had previously held family dinners and long conversations over the dining table, is now a space that offers something similar, but at the same time, completely different. With its high ceilings and spacious outdoor dining area, its spaciousness is definitely a reason why everyone keeps coming back to Nimmies, and in bigger groups each time.

Open from 8am to 11pm, it’s basically the perfect place to visit no matter the occasion or time of day you roll in.  If you’re an early riser, mornings at Nimmies are a delight. Their croissants are borderline life-changing, given how flaky and buttery they are, and not to mention how they take flavors to another level.

Best believe we did a double take when we saw the Pistachio Supreme Croissant. Packed generously inside with thick, nutty cream, you get that full-bodied pistachio hit in every bite you take. You’d quickly realize that no skimping is allowed here at Nimmies.

And let’s not forget their Lemak Croissant. Yes, you read that right. A nasi lemak recreated on a croissant base, topped with the classic Nasi Lemak ingredients — egg, cucumber, ikan bilis, peanuts, and sambal. It’s savoury, slightly spicy, rich, and honestly one of those dishes you talk about long after you’ve left. It’s playful, a little bold, and very on-brand for a cafe like Nimmies that isn’t afraid to experiment.

Even if you’re not a morning person, fret not, because by the time the clock strikes at noon, Nimmies instantly shift gears, and their lunch plates comes to the table, filled with flavours that could take anyone out of an afternoon slump. At Nimmies, the menu always has a small twist to keep things exciting. A traditional nasi lemak here has its own flair, known as their Soft Shell Crab Nasi Lemak, and a seafood pasta here is given a little fusion spotlight with their Creamy Tomyam Seafood Pasta creation.

And of course, no visit to any cafe is never complete without drinks and dessert. And here? Get ready to be spoilt with choice. From a flat whites and lattes like their Gula Melaka Latte and Pistachio Latte, to refreshing drinks on a hot day like their Watermelon Agua Fresca and Mixed Berry Fizz, you literally can’t go wrong with any of them. And the best part? They all pair well with the croissants you’ve already ordered. And if you still have space for dessert, which we know you all do, their hearty desserts like the All-new Mak’Cik Biscoff Cake and classic Tiramisu are just waiting for you to call out their names. After all, who can say no to dessert, especially if it looks like art?

What makes Nimmies work so well is that nothing is just ever as it seems. Every pastry is baked with an afterthought, every dish is refined with the craziest twist to it, and there is a drink for everyone here. The bungalow setting, the spacious alfresco area, the vintage tiles, the curated art, the playful yet well curated menu — it’s all what makes Nimmies whole.

At this point, Nimmies Pastry Cafe is not just a cafe people stumble upon. It’s a destination people plan around. If you needed a solid reason to make that trip down to Johor Bahru, this will do it for you.
