AN EXCLUSIVE OMAKASE EXPERIENCE FEATURING WORLD-RENOWNED SUSHI MASTERS
For three nights this May, Kuala Lumpur played host to something quietly extraordinary. Kuala Lumpur became the meeting point for some of the world’s most respected sushi masters as Sushi Summit returned with its ninth edition at Sushi Hibiki. More than just an omakase dinner, Sushi Summit Vol. 9 brought together celebrated chefs from across Japan, Bangkok, Singapore, and Malaysia, offering diners a rare opportunity to experience multiple expressions of sushi craftsmanship in a single seating.
That was what made Sushi Summit so interesting. Throughout the night, chefs took turns presenting their own dishes, each bringing their own style, techniques, and their personal way of approaching sushi. One moment, you were enjoying something rooted in tradition, and the next, a course might take on a more modern interpretation. It made the whole meal feel less predictable and a lot more exciting.

This year’s edition featured an impressive lineup, including Yuichi Hori of Sushi Yutaka Zen, Randy Noprapa of Fillets Bangkok, Kenjiro Hashida of Hashida Tokyo and Iyasaka by Hashida, Mitsuhiro Tominaga of Sushinosuke in Petaling Jaya, Sushi Hibiki’s own Makoto Saito Sam, as well as a mystery guest chef from Japan. Each session featured five chefs, creating a progression of dishes that moved across different styles and philosophies of sushi-making.
Over the course of two hours, guests were served a carefully curated menu of sushi and signature dishes, with each chef adding something distinct to the experience. Because seats were limited, the whole thing felt super intimate and personal, giving diners a closer look at the level of detail, skill, and precision that goes into what we call great sushi.

But beyond the exclusivity, what really made Sushi Summit stand out was the chance to experience so many different expressions of sushi in one meal. It was a reminder that sushi can be deeply traditional, creative, and personal all at once depending on whose hands are behind the counter.
Since it first launched in 2019, Sushi Summit has made stops in Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, and Dubai, bringing together more than 25 chefs over the years. Founded by Makoto Saito Sam together with Ee Soon Wei of APW, the event has continued to push for something bigger: raising the appreciation of sushi in Malaysia by bringing world-class talent and sushi lovers to the same table. And by the end of this meal, we have found an even greater appreciation for sushi than we thought we had.
