A Guide To Eat Your Way Through Taman Melodies
Taman Melodies is the kind of neighbourhood that residents kept quietly to themselves and were never in any rush to share. And honestly? Who could blame them? Nestled away from the usual well-trodden trails of the Johor Bahru food scene, this unassuming residential pocket has been steadily building a food scene that’s long overdue for its own spotlight.
A fair warning though, you won’t get very far here without stumbling onto something worth stopping for. An unassuming storefront that’s hiding a handmade noodle shop, a natural wine bar that feels more like visiting a friend’s homey space than a store, and cafes that we’d genuinely cross state lines for. If it’s not already on your radar, consider this the nudge.

CLOD COFFEE BAR & ROASTERS
Not every cafe announces itself, and Clod is perfectly fine with that. Located on Jalan Beringin with no glowing signs and no pastry display luring you in, what greets you instead is the clean bare walls, the steady hiss of an espresso machine, and the faint smells of roasted beans and warm milk. The menu reads like a world tour of coffee and changes with the seasons, so what you drink today might not be there the next month. Think of it less as placing a coffee order and more as catching an exhibition before it closes.
Address: 123, Jln Beringin, Taman Melodies, 80250 Johor Bahru, Johor Darul Ta’zim
Operation hours: 9am – 4pm daily, closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays

Keijometo
Fully clad in concrete with a sleek, industrial vibe, Keijometo’s façade would’ve made us double-check we have the right address if not for the queue that already started before doors are even opened for business. Step inside and you’ll find their Japanese-inspired menu doing the talking. Ochazuke, Sando, Donburi and a Matcha latte that, coming from a picky matcha drinker, genuinely hits the spot. Despite its cold cement walls, Keijometo wears the industrial aesthetic without the aloofness that usually comes with it.
Address: 3, Jln Chengai, Taman Melodies, 80250 Johor Bahru, Johor Darul Ta’zim
Operation hours: 11am – 7pm, closed on Mondays

Palates & bagels by T.A.M – Melodies of Thai
When a neighborhood favorite decides to scale, the worry is always that the soul gets lost in the expansion. Fortunately, the new chapter of Palates & Bagels has arrived with its charm (and its crust) perfectly intact. The Taman Melodies outlet is housed in a massive two-storey bungalow with rustic Bali-inspired vibes and raw, textured walls that make the whole space feel warmly lived-in. If you think this is just another bagel shop, think again because the menu here took a detour to Thailand. Think pulled lamb shoulder with Thai green chilli, duck leg confit with orange Dijon mayo, and a pomelo salad that arrives in a vase. Between the coconut-infused brews and a Thai Snowy Ice piled high with textures of jelly and sweet milk, and you have a brunch that justifies a repeat visit without us having to tell you twice.
Address: 46, Jln Beringin, Taman Melodies, 80250 Johor Bahru, Johor Darul Ta’zim
Operation hours: 8am – 8pm daily

chaos natural wine bar
Taman Melodies after dark has a name, and it’s Chaos. Lodged along the quiet fold of Jalan Kemuning, this intimate, candle-lit sanctuary is proof that the best evenings are the ones that aren’t over-rehearsed. The rotating wine list keep things unpredictable in the best way, and the handmade pasta is a masterclass in texture, a soulful reminder that simplicity usually wins. It’s a curated mess of candlelight, exceptional pours, and conversations that linger long after the bottle is empty. Atmospheric, effortlessly cool, and just the right amount of chaotic, it’s the only kind of disorder we’re actively seeking out.
Address: 73, Jalan Kemuning, Taman Melodies, 80250 Johor Bahru, Johor Darul Ta’zim
Operation hours: 6pm – 12am, closed on Wednesdays and Thursdays

NIMMIES PASTRY CAFE
Housed in a stately two-storey mansion, Nimmies Pastry Cafe feels like a brief, elegant departure from the Malaysian everyday. Wood-lined windows, exposed brickwork, and ornate lamps, the space exudes a somewhat Italian countryside aesthetic. Flanked by an alfresco area strung with lights, the space oozes a cinematic, bistro-like hum once the sun goes down. We mean it when we say their flaky, buttery pastries are architectural marvels, but it’s the unconventional turns that keep us coming back. Our current favorite is the Tuna Cronigiri—a cheeky, crisp cross between a croissant and an onigiri that manages to be both familiar and entirely unexpected.
Address: 171, Jln Beringin, Taman Melodies, Johor Bahru, 80250, Malaysia
Operation hours: 8am – 11pm daily

Nooduo by kioku
Nooduo doesn’t feel the need to dress up its history. It occupies a 20-year-old workshop that still wears its weathered facade with pride, the unassuming exterior a quiet gatekeeper for the craftsmanship waiting inside. But step inside and the industrial grit dissolves into a sun-soaked sanctuary of retro tiles and natural wood. There is a serious level of technicality at play here. The housemade noodles are a blend of French T55 and Italian 00 flour, giving every bite a refined, distinct character. But the real star is the French-style consommé, a broth so impossibly clear and packed with depth, it speaks to a kitchen that prioritizes rigor over flash.
Address: 13, Jalan Dedap, Taman Melodies, 80250 Johor Bahru, Johor Darul Ta’zim
Operation hours: 11am – 6pm daily

re patisserie
Re Patisserie feels like a giant “mute” button for the outside world. The space handles minimalism with a rare, tactile warmth. The space is a wash of cream tones and soft, diffused light that manages to feel serene rather than sterile. The pastry counter glows at the heart of the space, and the desserts more than live up to their setting. Airy creams, fruit pairings, buttery crusts and pastry work with a serious sense of geometry. Come early, the display case tends to empty out faster than you’d think.
Address: 77, Jalan Kemuning, Taman Melodies, 80250 Johor Bahru, Johor Darul Ta’zim
Operation hours: 11:30am – 7:30pm, closed on Tuesdays

otto cafe
Behind OTTO‘s warm, terracotta exterior lies a setup that looks like a design edit but feels surprisingly welcoming. The real story, however is the menu, a thoughtful study of technical Western execution anchored by deep-seated Asian profiles, with dishes like Kam Heong Spaghetti and Soft Shell Crab Toast. OTTO is undeniably built for the ‘grid,’ but it’s the rare spot that actually has the substance to back up the aesthetic.
Address: 81, Jalan Chengai 80250 Taman Melodies, Johor Bahru, 80250 Johor, Johor Darul Ta’zim
Operation hours: 10am – 6pm on weekdays, 9am – 6pm on weekends

A residential neighbourhood that feeds you well and sends you home happy, that is if you are willing to make the turn, find the parking and discover that some of Johor Bahru’s best eats have been hiding in plain sight all along. Taman Melodies never needed the spotlight because the food here has done enough talking, and if this list is anything to go by, it has plenty left to say.
