Who knew that Peruvian punch and Japanese precision could create such a harmony of flavours? Torito, KL’s newest dining gem, is proving that the most unexpected pairings can lead to the most delicious discoveries. Torito isn’t just a restaurant, but a testament to the surprising harmony that exists between two seemingly disparate worlds, all set against the backdrop of the city’s glittering skyline.
The grand opening was a celebration of this unexpected connection, a cultural dialogue expressed through art and gastronomy. His Excellency Ricardo Morote Canales, Ambassador of Peru to Malaysia, alongside Madam Sandra Isabel Massieu de Morote, graced the event, lending an official seal of approval to this unique culinary venture.

The evening was a carefully orchestrated cultural dialogue, expressed through art and gastronomy. The Torito bull, a symbol of Peruvian strength, was reimagined by local artist Miriam Omar, its bold lines softened with a touch of Japanese minimalism. It was a visual representation of the restaurant’s core concept: a fusion that’s both striking and refined.
And then there were Tania Alcala Serrano’s miniature Torito statues, each a tiny masterpiece, welcoming guests with a quiet elegance. It was a subtle nod to the Japanese aesthetic, where simplicity and detail coexist in perfect balance.

Adding a layer of auditory, a Peruvian flutist’s enchanting performance echoed the restaurant’s fusion concept, blending timeless folk melodies with modern harmonies, and creating a resonant cultural link between Peru and Malaysia.
Chef Iván Casusol, the mastermind behind Torito’s menu, is an epicurean explorer, charting new territories where Peruvian boldness meets Japanese restraint. Drawing on his Lima roots and his years navigating Southeast Asian flavours, he’s crafted a menu that’s both familiar and surprising. Our favourite, the ceviche – with a hint of umami, quinoa salads that whispher with Japanese subtlety, and octopus that’s both robust and delicate.

The restaurant’s design further emphasizes this unexpected harmony. The vibrant colors of Peru’s landscapes are tempered with clean, minimalist lines, creating a space that’s both energetic and serene. It’s a visual representation of the culinary experience: a balance of bold flavours and refined techniques.
After a couple hours in Torito, we came to a conclusion that Torito isn’t just about serving great food; it’s about exploring the unexpected. It’s about discovering the hidden connections between cultures, the surprising harmonies that emerge when seemingly disparate traditions collide. It’s where Peruvian boldness finds its zen in Japanese flair, creating a dining experience that’s as unexpected as it is unforgettable – and has the approval of Peru’s ambassador to Malaysia.
