Yakiniku GREAT: A Story of Fire, Family, and Flawless Cuts

From humble beginnings in Kawasaki to the heart of Kuala Lumpur, experience yakiniku that honors tradition and flavour.

Yakiniku GREAT isn’t your average grill-it-yourself yakiniku. It’s where craftsmanship meets quiet obsession — a sanctuary for serious beef lovers who understand that the best cuts are never rushed, and the most memorable meals are born from even greater intention.

The story of Yakiniku GREAT begins in Kawasaki City, where founder Shoji Tsugawa first fell in love with yakiniku — not from behind a kitchen counter, but from the seat of a family dinner table. As a child, he watched his father carefully grill each slice of meat, not with flair, but with quiet attention and care. Those moments, simple yet deeply meaningful, left a lasting impression. They weren’t just about food — they were about presence, ritual, and connection. Years later, that memory would become the heart of Yakiniku GREAT: a dining experience built on intention, where every cut is thoughtfully chosen and every course tells a story.

The Omakase Experience

The 15-course GREAT Omakase isn’t just a meal, it’s a journey. A slow unfolding of textures and temperatures: from tartare and caviar to seafood, sashimi, and rare cuts of Halal-certified Kuroge Wagyu flown in from Tokyo’s famed Shibaura Meat Market. Each course is grilled tableside, not as a show, but as an act of intention. You’re walked through the cuts, the technique, the taste.

It’s intimate. Personal. Like being let in on a secret. There’s no sizzle-for-spectacle here. No flash. Just quiet confidence, built on technique and trust.

Rooted in Ritual

At Yakiniku GREAT, nothing is done just because. The house-made tare sauce? A nod to Tsugawa’s hometown. The cuts? Rare and selected with precision. Even the service, deeply attentive yet unintrusive is part of the meal.

This is yakiniku the way it was always meant to be: slow, thoughtful, and deeply satisfying.

Born in Japan and now with outposts in Hong Kong and KL — including Damansara Heights and Bukit Bintang, Yakiniku GREAT is quietly expanding its flame. But no matter the city, the heart stays the same: honour the meat, respect the craft, and celebrate the people around the table.
